The Tin Can Bay Yacht Club Sailing Committee organises round-the-buoys club races regularly throughout the year.
Classes
TCBYC conducts its club races under the CBH system, with yardsticks converted to CBH. Entrants compete in one ‘all-boats’ division for off-the-beach multihulls, dinghies and monohulls and all classes of trailer-sailers, keelboats and cruising multihulls. If more than three off-the-beach multihulls enter a series, a separate division will be sailed.
Format
A club race day usually features 2 round-the-buoys races – the first on a short course, the second on a longer course, both determined by the prevailing winds.
Competitor sign-on takes place at the clubhouse from 11.45 am on race days, followed by a race briefing at 12.00 noon.
Racing usually commences around 1.00 pm, with the second race following back-to-back and starting within 5 minutes of the last competitor finishing the first race.
Race Rules
Race rules are as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing 2017 – 2020 (of the International Sailing Federation), Australia Sailing and the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club Sailing Instructions.
Series Point Score (handicap)
Four series comprising eight races per series are held with six races to count.
The series point score winner for each division (if more than one division is sailed) will be decided from a boat’s best six race results.
Overall Club Point Score (handicap)
Each entry's best six results from each of the four series will be combined to award the overall Club Point Score Winner. Point score winners will be awarded for each division (if more than one division is sailed).
Entry Fee
Cost of entry in club races is $5.00 per person, per boat, payable at sign-on.
Post-race Social
After most club race days, competitors and their families are invited to enjoy a cold beer and pizza at the Clubhouse. During this time, the results are usually presented and many anecdotes are shared. It’s a great way to wind down after a competitive sailing afternoon on the bay.
