Green Fleet - Learn to Sail

Tin Can Bay Yacht Club offers the opportunity to learn to sail via our Green Fleet program. These sessions help adults and children learn and improve their sailing skills.

The Fleet
The Green Fleet training vessels include 3 Laser Bugs, which are suitable for children to sail single and double-handed, a Laser, a Spiral, a Status 580 open cockpit trailer-sailer and 2 RS Quest dinghies (also available racing).
Sailors with their own dinghies are encouraged to bring their own vessels.

Safety
TCBYC provides PFDs for all sailors. Sailors with their own PFDs are encouraged to use them.
TCBYC also provides helmets for children's use.
The safety boat is a RIB. Sailors are not permitted on the water until the safety boat is ready.
Sail training only takes place in suitable weather conditions, taking into account the trainees' abilities.

Where and When
Green Fleet sessions usually take place on the Saturday before a racing Sunday (check sailing schedule on the Home page). The time usually varies according to the tide, but usually 2 hours before and after high tide between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
Green Fleet sessions are conducted in Snapper Creek. Adults may sail in Tin Can Inlet with experienced sailors.

Cost

Green Fleet costs for TCBYC members is $10.00 per session
Non-members may sail provided they obtain an Australian Sailing Sail Pass.
