COOLOOLA DRAGON

BOAT CLUB Inc
The Cooloola Dragon Boat Club enjoys some of the very best elements of Dragon Boating, with a keen emphasis on ‘fun, fitness and friendship’.
Although small, the club has a high profile in the community and enjoys the support of local business, with The Sleepy Lagoon Hotel/Motel being the Major Sponsor of our club since 2004. The Cooloola Dragon Boat Club recognises the diverse needs of the community and promotes enjoyment of the sport through regular paddling sessions, community events and regular competition at sporting regattas.

The tranquil and beautiful waterways of Tin Can Bay enable members to train in all but the most severe weather conditions and now, affiliated with the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club, members share the ‘best water views in town’ on their many social occasions.

The Cooloola Dragon Boat Club is committed to promoting Dragon Boating throughout the Cooloola and Wide Bay Districts, as an exciting water sport that promotes good health, teamwork and friendship, ...while having a boatload of fun!

About Us …
We are part of a world-wide non-profit organization run entirely by volunteers members. Our goal is to give people with disabilities an opportunity to make their dreams a reality by achieving freedom through sailing. We are dedicated to facilitating sailing for people with disabilities regardless of their age, gender or their level of disability. We are totally dependent on monetary donations and sponsorship from our supporters.

Our Members ...
Sailability is a rewarding and beneficial community service that offers challenging experiences for our volunteer members. If you have time and would like to help us run our sailing program, please contact us.

Our Boats ...
“Access” 303 dinghies are our chosen boats. These are purpose-designed dinghies for disabled sailing. They are feature tandem seating, and are very stable, virtually impossible to capsize and are excellent for instructing learners of all capabilities. We also have an Access 203 (2.03 metres in length) single-seater dinghy, for sailors who are capable of sailing solo.

Our Sailors ...
Sailability sailors come from all walks of life. Many have had a normal working life before an accident or illness reduced their capabilities; others were born with a disability. Sailing for people with disabilities provides a fun activity plus valuable therapeutic, recuperative and social benefits in a peer group that is excellent for personal growth.

Safety ...
We have a Safety Officer and a Safety Boat with qualified persons on station during operations. We supply all safety equipment to our sailors and a mobile crane is available to assist sailors in and out of dinghies.

Where Are We?
Sailability Tin Can Bay is affiliated with, and based at, the Tin Can Bay Yacht Club, Norman Point, Tin Can Bay.

When Do We Sail?
Our sailing activities are conducted from the Coast Guard Tin Can Bay pontoon on Fridays (excluding school holidays) and commence around 9.30am.
